Computex 2008
Broadcom Demonstrates Advanced System-On-A-Chip Solutions Enabling Consumer Devices with Breakthrough Performance Levels and Low Power at Computex 2008
June 3 - 7, 2008
Taipei, Taiwan
Broadcom continues to lead the industry with innovative silicon technologies for the connected home and office.
Pushing the envelope in terms of what consumer devices are able to do and how they communicate with one another,
Broadcom has introduced key system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions that significantly enhance the user experience while
making more advanced functionality available on a greater number of devices.
Demonstrations at Computex 2008 will showcase the convergence of digital video, voice, data and multimedia that
delivers the most advanced user experiences at home, at work and on the go, and provides an exciting preview of
upcoming consumer products enabled by Broadcom's innovative technologies.
With the depth and breadth of Broadcom's advanced portfolio of market-proven IP, the company is able to drive innovative
new products to market by designing solutions in 65 nanometer (nm) CMOS process technology. This advanced design process
provides higher levels of integration, smaller footprint sizes, and significantly reduced power consumption and bill of
materials (BOM) cost for communications devices.
Highlighting the company's strength and leadership as a technological powerhouse for consumer devices, the following technologies
and products will be demonstrated at Computex 2008:
Wireless Personal Area Networking - Broadcom's Wireless
Personal Area Networking (WPAN) line of business will showcase new headset solutions as well as multiple
advanced Bluetooth® combination technologies including WLAN and FM on a single-chip that enables a variety of consumer products
with new usage models at breakthrough prices and performance levels. Broadcom will also demonstrate groundbreaking Bluetooth audio
technology from its BCM2044 and BCM2047 headset chips, as well as SmartAudio™ technology that greatly improves audio clarity over Bluetooth.
Enterprise Networking - Broadcom's Enterprise
Networking Group (ENG) will demonstrate its latest 65nm Layer 2 (L2) switch products for small business networks.
These next generation small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) switches are designed to support low power modes and comply with service provider
standards in order to facilitate mass equipment deployment in developing countries. Enabling 'green' switch products that use packaging
materials free of lead and other harmful toxins, Broadcom's integration is made possible by 65nm process technology that results in
cost-effective, intelligent L2 Gigabit Ethernet switches for the SMB space. These SMB switches provide simpler and scalable designs with
reduced chip count and design complexity, as well as a lower total cost of ownership.
GPS - Broadcom's GPS line of business will showcase the company's first highly integrated GPS solution
for personal navigation devices (PNDs)
and mobile handsets. Broadcom's BCM4750 GPS receiver sets new standards in performance and power consumption, using less than half the power
of competitive solutions.
Media PC - Broadcom's Media PC line of business delivers high
quality video and audio playback for the emerging ultra-mobile personal computer (UMPC)
and mobile Internet device (MID) markets, addressing the need for the seamless playback of multimedia content on portable, low cost computing devices.
With the proliferation of online multimedia content now available to consumers, Broadcom's low power, high performance MPC solutions will help
accelerate high quality multimedia playback into the growing UMPC and MID segment.
Wireless LAN - Broadcom's WLAN line of business enables
end-to-end wireless connectivity solutions for the home, business and mobile markets. With solutions
in every major wireless market segment, Broadcom features products for wireless local area networking, cellular and wide area networking, and personal
area networking, as well as a comprehensive range of mobile technologies. Broadcom will demonstrate industry leading 802.11g and 802.11n solutions that
push the boundaries of speed and coverage, enabling Wi-Fi® users to experience more capabilities from their devices. Broadcom will also reveal
additions to its 802.11n portfolio with new solutions for a variety of infrastructure and client devices, optimized for video applications and a future
glimpse of consumer electronics and home networking.
